1. What inspired you to create this Winux7?

The distro is inspired by the look and feel of Windows 7. And once Windows 7 extended support ended, that means any link of the support for Windows 7 has officially finished. I think it would be fun to create a Windows 7-like Linux distro to allow me to experience the look of Windows 7 while having all the security that an up-to-date Operating system (in this case Linux Mint) will have.

2. What sets it apart from other Linux distributions?

I think what set it apart is that no Linux distros have tried to look like Windows 7 except I think ChaletOS. Also, it sets itself apart from LinuxFX/WindowsFX, a similar distro that tried to tackle the looks of Windows11, is that this is a hobby project. That means I do all of this for fun instead of profit. So there is no feature lock behind a paywall and the users don't need a pro licence to get the full experience.

3. What desktop environment does Winux7 use?

Winux Ultlises the Cinnamon Desktop Environment developed by the Linux Mint project, which is the Distro that this project is based on.

4. What customization options are available for the desktop?

By default, Winux7 look just like Windows 7. However, there are different colour themes available, and an experienced user will be able to download themes online and apply them.

5. How does Winux7 handle software management and package updates?

You can install packages from apt like on Ubuntu, and you can also use the Linux Mint software centre.

6. What are some of the pre-installed applications and tools that come with Winux7? Are there any unique or lesser-known applications that users might find useful?

There are Google Chrome, VLC, 7Zip, and Wine also come preinstalled so you can run basic Windows programmes, as well as a Windows 10 Virtual Machine. Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop can be downloaded and installed using a simple script. Since they are too big to package into the iso.

Linux is more secure than Windows and has frequent updates that make sure the system is always up-to-date and secure.

8. What kind of hardware requirements does Winux7 have? Is it suitable for older or less powerful machines?

Winux7 can run on any computer that Linxu Mint can. The minimum requirement are: 2GB RAM, 20GB of disk space, 1024×768 resolution display.
